We’ve been back at uni for a month now and to say it’s been a busy few weeks is an understatement! We kicked things off at our fresher’s fair where we smashed last year’s record and got 568 signatures from people interested in volunteering with us. Since then we’ve trained over a 100 new volunteers who are doing brilliantly and have helped us recruit over 200 people to the register so far.
We’ve also had our first fundraiser in Halifax where we raised over £800 as well as our intro social for all the new volunteers. It was a great (and messy) night! It was the national AGM this weekend, where all 42 groups from around the UK came to Nottingham for a weekend of all things Marrow. We had talks by donors, recipients, Anthony Nolan staff and the father of Isaac Evans, who has been raising awareness of the bone marrow register with Sheffield Marrow. There was also our annual awards presentation where we won Outstanding Contribution to Donor Recruitment for the third year running. Well done to all of the other groups and individuals who won awards, and a special thank you to James Kustow, the founder of Marrow who made an appearance to celebrate Marrow’s 15th birthday!
We’ll be spending the new couple of weeks organising our charity poker night. Whether you play poker or not, this will be a great evening and a chance to get your hands on some fantastic prizes, as well as raising lots of money for Anthony Nolan. Lots of Marrow love! X
