Most of our volunteers and committee members are currently enjoying their summer holidays, however that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still a busy time at Marrow HQ. The new committee are settling into their new roles and plans for the 2013/14 academic year are in full swing.
We’ve got 18 clinics and 19 fundraisers planned so far. Clinics take a lot of planning by our coordinators Matt and Shaminder, who have to book the venue, order supplies and work with our publicity reps to promote the event. We want to sign up even more people this year, and once again we will be visiting all of the Leeds University halls of residences, as well as holding our two major recruitment events at the union. Alex C is working on our training programme for next year. We hope to make it easier for new volunteers to get involved with Leeds Marrow, and you can now sign up for our intro sessions here.
Fundraising is a massive part of the work we do, and Louise and Charlie are working hard to organise bag packs, street collections and other fundraising events like tough mudder and the Leeds Half Marathon. We also rely on the support of local businesses and other university societies. Eleanor our community rep, and Emma our societies and diversity rep, are in contact with clubs, societies and local businesses, to create more partnerships with Leeds Marrow. Of course our busy social calendar takes a lot of planning as well, and we've got that covered too. 2013/14 is shaping up to be a great year for us!
Finally we’d like to mention the great work all of the other Marrow groups are doing. In the last few weeks alone we’ve heard the news that 11 people who were signed up by fellow students have donated stem cells in June, an amazing achievement. UK Marrow is also looking to set up even more groups at more universities, so this is a very exciting time!
We hope everyone is having a good summer!
