Over the past weekend Leeds Marrow hosted the National Marrow AGM, bringing in Marrow groups from all over the country. It was a brilliant weekend allowing us to meet other Marrow Groups and to hear about all of the amazing work they have done all over the UK. Of course there were also awards for Marrow groups and we are proud to say that Leeds Marrow won two of them; Outstanding Donor Recruitment after signing up 2,500 potential donors and the Outstanding Individual award was given to our President. Over the weekend there were some amazing speeches from those who have been directly involved in bone marrow transplantation including recipients Maeve whom tells her story here and also Tom whom runs Bone Marrow Awareness. Not to forget a speech from a donor who has been recently renamed as Matchy McMatcherson.
We had an amazing meal on the Saturday night which was topped off by a superb performance by the Leeds Uni Dancesport club who believe it or not only had two days to prepare after a previous dance group dropped out, you could not tell at all. A few photos can be seen below of our National AGM with so many more on our Facebook page.
On the last day it was down to the gritty business of choosing the National committee and once again we are proud to say that two of our very own committee members were voted in. They were Nick Raynor and Charlotte West whom were voted in as President and Vice-President/ Secretary respectively.
The Full National Committee is:
Nick Raynor - National President
Charlotte West - Vice President
Josh Cox - Social Media Rep
Chris Bricogne - International Rep
Vic Comerford - London Underground Rep
Aidan Craig - New Marrow Groups Rep
Charlotte Toogood - Press Rep
Finally we want to thank the Anthony Nolan staff, our amazing speakers, Leeds Dancesport and last but not least of all the Marrow groups that came down to make our AGM so special.
As there is no rest for the wicked we have many upcoming events including the massive donor recruitment events at Leeds Met City Campus and the Riley Smith Hall. Our first fundraiser is on Saturday in Huddersfield and tickets are selling fast for our spectacular Poker night on the 18th November.
